Job Summary: Independently performs routine and highly complex lab analyses on clinical specimens in one or more sections of the lab.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of routine and complex procedures using established criteria to provide quality clinical information. Verifies analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity and linearity for test methods
  • Operates, calibrates, checks and maintains instrumentation. Recognizes problems with quality control and test procedures and takes appropriate action to ensure quality clinical information
  • Serves as a consultant to medical lab technicians, phlebotomists, and other health care providers as needed. Participates in continuing education to ensure growth and development of the lab
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies for efficient lab operations
  • May collect and process patient specimens in accordance with lab policies and procedure and within the expected time frames
  • May mentor MT/MLT, phlebotomy students and new employees in lab testing following WPAHS policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in ASCP eligible program or successful completion of HEW exam. Meeting ongoing education requirements for certification
  • MT (ASCP) or equivalent or HEW certificate within one year of hire
  • Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
  • Clinical lab experience preferred
