Job Summary: Independently performs routine and highly complex lab analyses on clinical specimens in one or more sections of the lab.
Responsibilities:
- Performs a variety of routine and complex procedures using established criteria to provide quality clinical information. Verifies analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity and linearity for test methods
- Operates, calibrates, checks and maintains instrumentation. Recognizes problems with quality control and test procedures and takes appropriate action to ensure quality clinical information
- Serves as a consultant to medical lab technicians, phlebotomists, and other health care providers as needed. Participates in continuing education to ensure growth and development of the lab
- Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies for efficient lab operations
- May collect and process patient specimens in accordance with lab policies and procedure and within the expected time frames
- May mentor MT/MLT, phlebotomy students and new employees in lab testing following WPAHS policies and procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned or required
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in ASCP eligible program or successful completion of HEW exam. Meeting ongoing education requirements for certification
- MT (ASCP) or equivalent or HEW certificate within one year of hire
- Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
- Immunology experience preferred.
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
- Clinical lab experience preferred
