Job Summary: The Vice President, Nursing Education and Professional Practice serves as a member of the Chief Nurse Executive leadership team and is responsible for the centralization, standardization, and leadership of all educational components for nursing education within the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) enterprise. Components include nursing education, nurse residency program, academic partner relationships, magnet activities, patient education, nursing specific quality, and nursing specific patient experience activities.


Responsibilities:  

Responsible for the centralization, standardization, and leadership of all educational components included in nursing education within the AHN enterprise.

Collaboratively creates and executes a network-wide nursing education and professional practice strategy that aligns with the mission of AHN and the Focus 5 – quality and safety, growth and access, patient experience, financial stability, and employees. Creates, executes and refines a framework for excellence in education and professional nursing practice that is evidenced-based, ensures competencies, and includes best practices, resulting in a high performing educational team.

Leads the nursing education team in driving the strategic and operational initiatives of the department including implementation of the professional practice model, leading the Magnet journey at prioritized AHN hospitals, providing oversight of the acute and ambulatory education directors, collaboration with academic partners, oversight of the nurse residency program director, and the development of an AHN-wide patient education initiative. 

On a regular basis, evaluates outcomes and modifies programs as needed. Responsible for creating, executing, and refining   nursing on-boarding/orientation, staff development, and leadership development to validate and enhance competence of clinical staff.

Responsible for the financial and operational aspects of the department, including budgeting, expense management, accountable for maintaining departmental costs within budgeted allocations.  

Serves as the nursing education and professional practice content expert and consultant for AHN.  Oversees the development and implementation of nursing annual competencies and the nursing education plan for AHN. 


Qualifications: 

PhD or DNP required; Degree focused on Nursing Education preferred; Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.  

Minimum of five (5) years’ leadership experience required; preferred area of expertise in nursing, involving nursing staff education and professional development.

Current PA license as an RN or obtain license within 3 months of employment, required. 

Ability to navigate within a complex environment in which competing projects and priorities must be rationalized.

Previous experience managing and leading educational programs in a health care setting preferred.

Teaching and/or education development experience preferred.
