Job Summary: Performs routine and highly complex laboratory analysis on clinical specimens in various sections of the lab under supervision.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of routine and complex procedures using established criteria to provide quality clinical information. Verifies analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity and linearity for test methods.
  • Operates, calibrates, checks and maintains instrumentation. Recognizes problems with quality control and test procedures and takes appropriate action to ensure quality clinical information.
  • Participates in programs to keep updated with current and changing technologies.
  • May collect and process patient specimens in accordance with lab policies and procedures and within the expected time frames.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies for efficient lab operations
  • May mentor MT/MLT, phlebotomy, and lab processor students and new employees in lab testing following WPAHS policies and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required

Requirements:

  • Associates degree in ASCP eligible program or equivalent. Meeting ongoing education requirements for certification.
  • MLT (ASCP) or equivalent required within one year.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
  • Clinical laboratory experience preferred.
