Duties: Manages the daily operations of Mount Pleasant EMS with regards to the staff, the facility, the ambulances, and the equipment, as to the following:

  • The Supervisor will oversee and ensure the staff’s performance and compliance with daily duties, including responding to calls, maintaining cleanliness of the facility, completing patient care records, maintaining the ambulances/equipment, proper time and attendance, proper dress code, delegation of tasks, professionalism in the workplace and in performing excellent patient care and customer service.
  • The Supervisor will be responsible for maintaining the staff duty schedule, ensuring shift coverage 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week.
  • The Supervisor will be available for the staff to contact when needed for personnel and operation issues, at least by phone, 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week. If unavailable, the director shall be made aware.
  • The Supervisor will help to develop and change policies and procedures as needed for daily EMS operations.
  • The Supervisor will communicate procedures and changes in procedures via writing, phone email, and scheduled staff meeting switch all personnel as needed and ensure staff compliance.
  • The Supervisor will monitor and maintain staff personnel files and observed for needed updates to their certifications.
  • The Supervisor may suggest disciplinary actions when necessary in accordance with set standards of Mount Pleasant EMS and will work closely with the Director to develop proper courses of action in each case.
  • The Supervisor will monitor staff for timely completion of patient care records and perform QA of patient care records to ensure compliance with state regulations and protocols.
  • The Supervisor will work closely with professionals from the medical command facility to seek out educational opportunities for staff and to address any staff performance issues.
  • The Supervisor will calculate payroll, maintain time and attendance records, and forward them weekly to the payroll service.
  • The Supervisor will assist as directed with new hire applications, volunteer applications, and the interview/hiring process as deemed appropriate by the Director.
  • The Supervisor will keep records of invoices, purchase orders, and documents taken to the borough manager, and perform any necessary office duties required for daily operations.
  • The Supervisor will correspond with vendors and repairmen in order to maintain the facility, the ambulances, and equipment. Estimates and costs will be reported to the director.
  • The Supervisor will record, track, and order medical supplies as necessary. Major supply/equipment needs will be forwarded to the Director for approval prior to purchase.
  • The Supervisor will contribute in assisting the Director with developing the annual budget at their request.
  • The Supervisor will maintain the medication inventory and correspond with the medical command facility to obtain replacement medications.
  • The Supervisor will interact with the public, patient, physicians, hospital staff, other EMS service personnel regarding any complaints or concerns that need addressed. Concerns will be documented and discussed with the Director.
  • The Supervisor will attend board meetings when requested by the Director and record meeting minutes for Mount Pleasant EMS.
  • The Supervisor will attend any Mount Pleasant Borough Department meetings when requested by the borough manager.
  • The Supervisor will correspond with the Emergency Medical Services Institute, Pittsburgh, PA, for any changes or updates in regional procedures and to maintain the active duty roster for their records.

Qualifications:  The Supervisor shall be a Pennsylvania Certified Paramedic or Pre Hospital Register nurse with a minimum of five years of field experience. Current certifications must include CPR, ACLS, PALS, EVOC, and NIMS 100, 700. The Supervisor must be eligible for medical command and have the ability to function in the field as a crew member according to Pennsylvania State EMS protocols.
