Seeking a full time Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist to optimize patient care on the Allegheny General Hospital Campus of the Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute. This position will cover inpatient and outpatient areas.

Job Summary:

  • Optimizes patient care by promoting rational, safe, and cost effective drug therapy, by developing and providing clinical services in the area of expertise, and by conducting pharmacy practice research; educates and trains the pharmacy staff, pharmacy residents, students and other health care providers.
  • Provides patient education on drug therapy and assists with medication counseling, including coordination of care between inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Reviews and evaluates patients' drug/medical history to make recommendations that optimize drug therapy, by providing drug information and evaluation of medical literature during rounds with physicians, through verbal or written consultations, and drug utilization reviews/monitors.
  • Conducts pharmacy practice research by collecting, analyzing, trending, collating, and evaluating data to be synthesized into reports (e.g. formulary evaluations, adverse drug reactions, ongoing monitors, non-formulary requests, or specific drug usage evaluations) for action by committees.
  • Promotes interdisciplinary teamwork by working on clinical pathways, committees, and task forces.
  • Provides formal education to pharmacists, pharmacy residents, students and health care providers through in-services or lectures and publications.
  • Creates a culture of learning and sharing in the network that supports the development of a fully qualified clinical staff through coaching, motivation and empowerment.
  • Implements staff development on clinical processes and oversees the training of Pharmacists, Pharmacy Residents, students and healthcare providers.
  • Contributes to the medical community and pharmacy practice by presenting research at meetings and/or publishing results in journals.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements:

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in the state of PA at hire or sit for boards and obtain licensure within 90 days.
  • Requires completion of a PGY-2 oncology pharmacy residency or 4 years of equivalent experience.
  • BCOP Preferred.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a dynamic environment and take appropriate action.
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required, including NIOSH recommendations for hazardous materials.
