Job Summary: Performs routine and highly complex laboratory analysis on clinical specimens in various sections of the lab under supervision.
Responsibilities:
- Performs a variety of routine and complex procedures using established criteria to provide quality clinical information. Verifies analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity and linearity for test methods.
- Operates, calibrates, checks and maintains instrumentation. Recognizes problems with quality control and test procedures and takes appropriate action to ensure quality clinical information.
- Participates in programs to keep updated with current and changing technologies.
- May collect and process patient specimens in accordance with lab policies and procedures and within the expected time frames.
- Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies for efficient lab operations
- May mentor MT/MLT, phlebotomy, and lab processor students and new employees in lab testing following WPAHS policies and procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned or required
Requirements:
- Associates degree in ASCP eligible program or equivalent. Meeting ongoing education requirements for certification.
- MLT (ASCP) or equivalent required within one year.
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
