West Penn Allegheny Health System’s Physician Organization is an integrated network of primary and specialty care providers committed to achieving the highest level of patient satisfaction and clinical performance.  Based in Pittsburgh, the organization includes over 600 physicians who practice in communities throughout Western Pennsylvania.  Our physicians – along with a group of dedicated, compassionate nurses and support staff – provide a wide range of diagnostic, clinical and preventive services to patients of all ages.  WPAHS is recognized as the health care quality and personalized service leader in its market. 
 
Our general surgeons provide evaluation and treatment of the full range of complex general surgery problems. Often working in conjunction with colleagues in other specialties, our staff emphasizes collaboration with referring physicians.   West Penn Allegheny Health System surgeons were among the first to use minimally invasive approaches, and have accumulated some of the largest clinical experiences with laparoscopic surgical techniques in the country.   

• Our bariatric surgery program has received numerous professional and national recognitions for excellence since our 2006 accreditation by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and designation by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) as a "Center of Excellence" for bariatric surgery.
• Established in 1969, West Penn Burn Center is the first and only burn program in the region to receive verification honors by the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons and the American Burn Association – and is the only burn center in Pennsylvania to have earned verification four times.
• The Pennsylvania Trauma System Foundation has consistently designated AGH as a Level I Regional Resource Trauma Center with the highest level of patient care, research and education.   Our Shock Trauma Center is the largest in the tri-state area of Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia, with a $50 million expansion of the emergency department and the trauma unit having taken place within the past five years. Since 1984, AGH has been the leading institution in the area to focus on care and research into TBI and spinal cord injury (SCI).
