SVMG Medical Office Assistant
Objective:
Provides support with daily activities in the medical practice such as telephone coverage, appointment scheduling, patient registration/discharge, collecting copays, and medical records functions. Greets and directs patients and visitors.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Answers telephone and either responds to non- clinical inquiry, directs caller to appropriate personnel, or initiates an accurate phone note and forwards immediately.
Accurately schedules appointments in computer system. Checks eligibility on same day appointments.
Works eligibility list daily
Reviews reminder call daily report and makes changes in computer system
Prepares patient record for appointments, ensuring all appropriate documents and information is readily available for medical personnel
Completes check in process, including verifying patient demographics and obtaining copy of driver’s license. Copies and scans current insurance cards and verifies eligibility.
Provides each patient with HIPAA information and scans in chart
Collects payments and copays; responsible for cash drawer
Monitors patient reception area and keeps patients informed of delays
Organizes and maintains a filing system for patient records, including electronic filing of outside correspondence
Prints/copies patient records and maintains disclosure log and transfer log
Maintains inventory of office supplies
Distributes mail and faxes in a timely manner
Maintains knowledge of current computer systems; reviews and complies with system updates
Performs additional MOA duties as requested by manager

Education and Experience Requirements
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.
Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money a
nd weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
Computer Skills
Preferred: Microsoft Outlook
