Job Summary: The Director, Advanced Practice Provider Services, is a leadership role, responsible for the management of the advanced practice providers, including Physician Assistants and Advanced Practice Nurses. Oversight includes support of the clinicians’ practice, monitoring of individual clinical quality outcomes, engaging in patient experience efforts, and providing continuing education opportunities. Further duties include measuring and monitoring clinician-specific utilization and productivity, and management of the credentialing/privileging process. The Director is responsible for advanced practice providers at all Allegheny Health Network (AHN) hospitals and outpatient clinics. The Director is responsible for recruiting, in collaboration with AHN Human Resources, and retaining advanced practice providers, while promoting the inherent value of the discipline across the network.
Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for management and leadership of the advanced practice providers, including the Physician Assistants, Advanced Practice Nurses and the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists at all AHN hospitals and outpatient clinics.
- Functions as primary leader ensuring goals are met in regards to clinical practice elements, i.e., quality, utilization, productivity, and patient experience.
- Ensures compliance with state licensing board(s) regarding advanced practice provider practice.
- Monitors supervision and collaboration agreements between advanced practice provider practice and physicians, maintaining them in accordance with state laws.
- Is actively engaged in recruiting and placement of advanced practice providers, ensuring appropriate utilization based on practice needs.
- Serves as Chair of the Advanced Practice Provider Committee, with the primary effort being the oversight of credentialing and privileging in accordance with JCAHO standards.
- Remains current on JCAHO mandates regarding advanced practice provider practice.
- Collaborates with the Department of Quality, Safety, and Value and the Office of Patient Experience to ensure quality outcomes and patient experience metrics are achieved.
- Creates and executes the on-boarding program for the advanced practice providers, individual plans to promote educational opportunities and/or conference attendance and participation.
- Ensures the financial integrity of billing practices of the advanced practice providers; monitors reimbursement, productivity, and utilization to ensure budget targets are achieved.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge base of current and anticipated legislative issues related to the advanced practice provider practice.
- Actively participates in local, state, and national activities related to advanced practice provider practice, including working with legislators and presenting at professional meetings.
- Routinely provides the advanced practice providers with training and education on team building and collaboration skills to enhance their practice.
- Actively pursues, promotes and facilitates academic practice partnerships and clinical rotations of advanced practice provider students throughout the continuum. .
- Maintains required documentation on advanced practice provider activities in accordance with all regulatory bodies. .
- Networks with other health care organizations on best practices that benefit the clinical and operational nature of leading the advanced practice provider staff.
- Provides clear and constant communication with all advanced practice providers regularly.
Job Requirements:
- Graduate of either an accredited (ARC-PA) physician assistant program or a graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Master’s or Doctoral program.
- Valid National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification or Nurse Practitioner licensure with prescriptive authority.
- Minimum of 7 years clinical experience and 5 years of management and leadership experience in a complex health system is required.
- Must be knowledgeable in and state advanced practice provider matters thorough demonstrated involvement in appropriate professional organizations.
- Excellent demonstrated strategic planning, organizational, and execution skills required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of advanced practice provider legislation, reimbursement, licensure board practices and JCAHO mandates regarding advanced practice in hospitals and ambulatory settings preferred.
- Membership in state and national advance practice provider-focused professional associations with demonstrated participation preferred.
