TITLE: Surgical Technologist
OBJECTIVE: Assists surgical team before, during, and after surgery by performing the following duties.
REQUIREMENTS One year certificate from college or technical school; three to six months experience preferred; Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money a nd weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Preferred: Microsoft Windows 2000 Required: VB.net Required: CPR Certification
RESPONSIBILITIES Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Place equipment and supplies in operating room, assist in opening of supplies, perform hand scrub according to policy, don gown and gloves and arrange instruments. Assist team members to place and position patient on table and move from OR table at end of case as needed. Assure that the necessary instruments, implants, and suture are on field or available for the patients procedure. Maintain an orderly and sterile surgical field. Hands instruments and supplies to surgeon, holds retractors, cuts sutures, and performs other tasks as directed by surgeon during operation. Puts dressings on patient following surgery. Counts sponges, needles, and instruments before and after operation. Stock assigned operating according to PAR level at end of day. Assist other staff members as needed.
