Job Summary: Works under supervision to perform routine and special histological procedures on patient specimens.

Responsibilities:

  • Embeds, sections, accurately labels and processes tissue sections in accordance with department policies and procedures to produce slides for pathologist's review.
  • Operates, calibrates, checks and maintains instrumentation. Recognizes problems with quality control and test procedures and takes appropriate action to ensure quality clinical information.
  • Performs routine and special staining procedures.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies for efficient laboratory operations.
  • May assist with collection of anatomic pathology specimens.
  • May mentor student and new employees in laboratory testing following WPAHS policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements:

  • HT(ASCP)or eligible
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
  • Grossing experience preferred.
  • One year of clinical histology experience preferred.
