Clinical Lab Technologist PER DIEM Westfield Memorial Hospital
Degree in medical technology or a related science obtained through a formal four year college/university academic program and a one year clinical internship. Registry with a recognized board of registry for medical technology, such as American Society of Clinical Pathologists required. Must maintain or be eligible for licensure with the New York State Education Department as Clinical Laboratory Technologist prior to beginning employment. Aid the clinician in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease by analyzing blood and other body fluids. Performs phlebotomy duties (including specimen processing) as needed; adhering strictly to policy and procedures to ensure proper patient identification. Determines acceptability of specimens (labeling, anticoagulant/ preservative, sample volume, etc.) and resolves any discrepancies with nursing staff or laboratory management. Maintain positive specimen identification throughout processing (collection, accessioning, centrifugation, testing, staining and storage). Perform analytical tests according to policy and procedure within an acceptable time frame by prioritizing tasks. Works in an organized manner, performs multiple tasks simultaneously in all work assignments. Exercises independent judgment when evaluating validity of results. Verifies all written and verbal reports are accurate before release. Follows defined protocols for reporting panic or amended results. Accepts responsibility for one’s own behavior and actions. Works independently without reminders regarding timeliness and quality of work. Provides orientation, education, and training to new associates. Willingly shares information and job expertise with co-workers. PC experience, excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills.
