Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights has long been known for providing the highest quality medical care available. Our 200-bed hospital serves as an inpatient facility and offers a broad spectrum of programs, including medical and surgical services, inpatient psychiatric care and geriatric psychiatric care, cardiology, orthopaedics and cancer care. We also offer outpatient care centers throughout the community located in New Kensington, Natrona Heights and Vandergrift, all providing a wide range of diagnostic services in easy to access, convenient locations.
Job Summary: Responsible for the management of all clinical and administrative components for assigned departments. Assesses, plans, coordinates, evaluates and supervises employees in the provision of patient care. Responsible for the overall patient experience, managing budget and productivity, staffing unit, overseeing staff training, monitoring quality of care and assuring that the department activities align with corporate goals.
- Monitors, directs and evaluates staff in assigned unit to ensure provision of effective, efficient and safe patient care in accordance with established clinical nursing practice standards.
- Maintains a diverse knowledge base that includes: clinical practice, patient care delivery models, work design, shared governance, evidenced based practice, outcome measurement, quality improvement and metrics, patient safety and risk management. Maintains a knowledge of the healthcare environment and understanding of health care economics and health care policy as it applies to the delivery of patient care. Assumes responsibility for professional conduct and development.
- Creates/sustains an environment that establishes collaborative practice that displays the presence of trust, respect and good communication among customers. Acts as a role model for the AHN Service Values.
- Demonstrates initiative in developing, implementing and analyzing patient experience and quality improvement activities and outcomes of the department. Analyzes and monitors compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies. Demonstrates knowledge of continuous quality improvement tools.
- Utilizes performance management knowledge and skills to implement annual staff performance appraisals and goal setting, continual performance development, corrective action and disciplinary processes. Displays leadership skills that include succession planning, coaching, guiding and mentoring.
- Responsible for the financial analysis and management of department supplies, personnel and equipment.
- Manages unit/department based budgeting and capital budgets. Demonstrates expertise in aligning staff and other resources to respond to financial environment wthout compromising overall clinical effectiveness or outcomes. Skills and knowledge include awareness of financial software, report formats, financial analysis and financial report interpretation.
- Participates on committees to plan, develop, monitor and implement programs, policies and procedures.
- Maintains intra and interdepartmental communication to resolve operational problems and improve patient care. Investigates, documents and resolves complaints or incidents concerning patients, physicians, visitors and subordinates in a timely manner ensuring that they have been investigated and appropriate action taken.
- Job duties include responsibility for providing patient care services. Care plans, treatment, and education are provided according to the age of the patients served. Other duties as assigned or required.
- Master's Degree in Nursing Administration (finance focus) or Master's Business Administration is required. MSN preferred. Completion of Master's degree within allotted time frame will be required. Undergraduate or graduate degree must be in nursing.
- Current and valid PA RN license required.
- Certification in area of specialty required. Completion of specialty certification within allotted time frame will be required.
- 5 years of clinical experience with 2 years of leadership experience. Prefer one or more years of Acute Rehab clinical experience.
