Job Summary:Provides expert care in lactation management according to the International Lactation Consultant Association and the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners Standards of Practice. Serves as an expert consultant to nursing staff, physicians and other health care workers in the management of complex breastfeeding for the mother/infant dyad. Educates expectant and new parents in various aspects of breastfeeding management.
Job Responsibilities:
- Practices autonomously to provide expert lactation care and clinical management for inpatient and outpatient breastfeeding dyads.
- Provides education and consultation to patients and health care team members using evidence based practice standards.
- Assists with daily operations of the retail lactation center and monitors breastfeeding equipment within the hospital.
- Participates in marketing activities related to Lactation Services.
- Contributes to the achievement of department, divisional and organizational goals.
- Contributes to the development and presentation of lactation programs and policies based on facility requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements:
- BA/BS Degree preferred.
- Current PA RN license in good standing
- International Board Certification as Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) required.
- 3 years experience in clinical obstetrics and/or birthing center preferred.
- Previous experience as an IBCLC preferred.
