Director, Infection Prevention

Allegheny Health Network’s clinical expertise ranges from primary care to the most complex surgical procedures. Services include cancer diagnosis and treatment, cardiovascular care, neurological and neurosurgical services, organ transplantation, orthopedic and rehabilitation services, and women’s health.
Summary:
Responsible for designing, implementing and directing a system-wide infection prevention program. This includes, but is not limited to, surveillance, analysis, reporting, data collection and ensuring regulatory requirements/standards are in compliance. Directs and facilitates network-wide efforts to ensure that the IP Program is managed using a data-driven and process improvement focus and are aligned back to strategic initiatives. Develops and communicates the strategic vision, scope and tactics related to Infection Prevention. Assures that network-wide initiatives are focused and aligned on achieving defined targets, improving operational effectiveness and optimizing efficiencies. Develops, deploys and coordinates communication and education programs to support the ongoing learning of the AHN teams and its key stakeholders. Ensures data is available to key stakeholders in a timely way and actionable format. Provides ongoing analysis to leadership on Program status, estimating year-end achievements and recommendations for further action.
Job Responsibilities:
Responsible for the development of network Infection Prevention strategy, direction of the AHN Infection Prevention Program and the oversight of such functions across the various network organizations, inclusive of hospitals, ambulatory centers and medical practices. In colaboration with key stakeholders, designs the network surveillance program for hospital associated infections, guided by an annual IP risk assessment process.
Standardizes processes across the network for surveillance, counting and reporting of infections. Responsible for streamlining administrative work associated with IP data collection and required reporting.
Provides oversight of required reporting to federal, state and accrediting bodies. Ensures timely, consistent and accurate reporting within required timeframes. Provides oversight of the analysis, interpretation and dissemination of IP data to key stakeholders, including but not limited to, the Board of Trustees, AHN Executives, leadership, physicians and staff.
Partnering with marketing, develops and deploys a network communication and education plan around Infection Prevention.
Collaborates with leadership, physicians and staff to develop evidence based prevention programs and deploy tactics that will aid in improving outcomes. Working with key stakeholders, create network forums to strategize, design, share best practices and lessons learned around Infection Prevention.
Collaborates with internal departments (Emergency Management, Occupational Health, Life Safety) and external agencies such as CDC, DOH, etc. to investigate exposure to communicable diseases.
Responsible for development and communication of network Infection Prevention policies according to and in compliance with external regulating bodies.
Engage physicians and other key stakeholders to ensure understanding, collaboration and participation in the programs. Responsible for working and building relationships across the network at various levels of employees, inclusive of, but not limited to, senior leaders, middle management and staff in various acute care and ambulatory settings.
Requirements:
Education: Master's degree in healthcare related field or MBA required.
Licensure: Valid PA RN licensure required; certification in Infection Control preferred.
Management experience required. Network experience preferred.
Ten or more years’ experience in healthcare required.
Three to four years’ experience managing infection prevention.
Must be a skilled communicator and educator able to develop, deploy and facilitate individual and group training sessions.
Candidate must have the ability to influence others towards a common goal.
Proven skills with analytics and the use of data to drive decision making.
