Job Summary:
Assists physicians and extenders in providing proper medical and clerical support for the various orthopaedic practice locations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs various related procedures including but not limited to wound care, dressings, EKGs, removal of sutures/staples, application/removal of orthopaedic casts/splints and drawing infections, vaccines, botox, phlebotomy for PRP and assisting with ultrasound procedures.
- Assists in the coordination of patient care under the supervision of the assigned health care provider
- Prepares and rooms patients within the clinical practice setting according to standardized work flows. Accurately obtains patient vital signs, documenting patient health information, history and medications. Accurately interviews patients and orders radiographs according to the physician protocols.
- Accurately documents all pertinent details in the electronic health record (EHR) according to established standards and work flows including all pertinent patient interactions at the time of the encounter in the correct EHR note type. Reviews, updates and reconciles medication list in the EHR. Reviews problem list, social history, medical surgical history and pain assessment with the patient and updates the record. Follows Meaningful Use standards.
- Functions as a scribe to the physician when needed to maintain clinic work flow.
- Stocks, prepares and cleans patient rooms utilizing sterile techniques and universal precautions.
- Performs chart management tasks by obtaining diagnostic reports and reviewing charts for completion. Scans pertinent findings from outside sources to the appropriate tab in the EHR. Provides and communicates information to physicians and staff as necessary.
- Educates patients on proper wound and pin care, cast care and postoperative care.
- Assists with patient prescription needs based on established protocols
- Performs activities of the concussion clinic accurately recording intakes, assessments and performs testing.
- Triages clinical voice mails, schedules appointments, schedules surgeries and testing. Obtains consents and authorizations and manages EHR in-baskets.
- Completes case requests and orders necessary testing according to protocols. Reviews test results and works with physician to rectify abnormalities.
- Serves as peer mentor. Responsibly orients new orthopaedic technicians in correct office workflows. Demonstrates proficiency in teaching pre-visit planning, meaningful use standards, appropriate documentation and workflows. Provides meaningful feedback and performance evaluations for orientees. Mentors students and interns as assigned.
- Assists employees with setting up and working within the EHR efficiently and correctly.
- Provides clinical leadership oversight serving as a department resource for clinical questions.
- Requires travel to various satellite locations to support assigned physician(s)
Education:
- Graduate of a medical assistant program or at least three months of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with cast application, adjustment and removal, suture/staple removal and dressing changes required.
Licensure/ Certification/ Registration:
- Valid PA driver's license
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification required or
- Medical Assistant (CMMA) testing with 30 days of hire and must obtain CCMA certification within 120 days of hire.
