Overview of job
We are seeking a senior level person to lead our Marketing work. We seek someone who can determine and recommend how to best position Longbow vs our competitors. We want to add a leader to our team, who can create and implement an overall strategic and tactical marketing plan (with lots of help from our product team and key partners, including our in-house creative and design team).
This work involves understanding our products, our market, and our clients goals and objectives, creatively thinking of ways to position us and to solve problems, helping us optimize how we propose data-driven solutions, and building credibility for and awareness of our company.
Reporting of the role
This is a senior level position reporting directly to the CEO.
Measures of success –
In three months:
- Assess our product set and competitive landscape, build SWOT analyses, define key markets, and create our overall company and products’ positioning.
- Design, create and launch our company PPT and short animated product movies (eg, 3 minute duration) with assistance from our graphics partners.
- Build our awareness plan, including how we would use Linkedin, speaking engagements, press releases and other tools to get the word out.
In six months:
- Execute against our awareness plan, and build a buzz in the market for Longbow’s Location Data Science work and our data products.
- Build relationships with existing customers, interview and gather testimonials to support our marketing efforts; Help us promote our client superstars and tell the story of how we helped their companies to grow.
- Identify potential data & platform partnerships and help us to begin those conversations.
- Outline our overall pricing strategy across the various products.
In 12 months:
- Plan and execute marketing events to build awareness and serve key markets, find opportunities for us to build credibility, speaking at conferences and leveraging our data science capabilities to engage in broader industry conversations.
- Support sales efforts with marketing efforts, to help our Account team to locate opportunities for six DMP installs, twelve Location Reporting and Analysis projects, and other projects.
- Help the company to successfully launch new products and lines of business, and meet our profitability targets.
Responsibilities of the role:
- RESEARCHING: Research our competitive landscape, articulate our USP’s and key differentiators, develop our company POV on our industry, where its headed and why Longbow is relevant to the market.
- POSITIONING: Develop our company positioning, and define how we can best articulate our company, culture, products and key benefits, to our clients and prospects, partners and prospective employees.
- EDITING: Create and maintain the content and concepts for our company credibility deck, and website; work with our graphics team to develop the deck and website, in ways that present our company is innovative, creative and forward-looking. Help us create short animated movies to describe our work and why it matters to our clients. And help create product descriptions and other company materials as they are needed.
- PROMOTING: Build and execute a promotional plan, to include events, announcements, LinkedIn and other appropriate ways to build awareness.
- PARTNERING: Interface with key partner stakeholders and internal teams to: understand our business and products; identify ways for us grow our businesses together; and to collaborate build and launch appropriate and powerful marketing programs. Identify and evaluate marketing partners, and help with networking and introductions.
What you will need:
- A Bachelors degree in Advertising, Marketing, Information Technology, or Engineering is required. An MBA or MA/MS will be a very strong plus.
- Five or more years of experience is required, either client-side or in an advertising, marketing or media agency.
- Some experience with data driven marketing, especially digital advertising, media, and audience platforms (RTB/DMP/DSP) will be a very strong plus.
- Prior experience in launching data-based products is preferred.
- It would be a big plus to have been a part of a startup or to have experience working on innovative small projects.
- Our working environment is cross-cultural, so basic English speaking ability is preferred.

This job will be based in Shanghai, with occasional and infrequent business-related travel to Hangzhou, Beijing, Guangzhou / Shenzhen / HK.
