Position Overview

The Linux Systems Administrator is critical in accomplishing this mission. The Xaxis platform uses cutting edge technology and needs talented individuals to build and maintain its infrastructure. Ideal candidates will be problem solvers who are ambitious and passionate about technology.

The Linux Systems Administrator should also have a working knowledge of Vertica and MariaDB/MySQL.  In this role, the individual is also responsible for database back-up and recovery verification, performance measuring, capacity planning and automating DBA tasks.

• Monitor application performance and availability
• Add server capacity to clusters to support growth
• Recoverability - Creating and testing Backups
• Availability - Ensuring maximum uptime
• Performance - Ensuring maximum performance
• Provision test environments to support research and development
• Execute software releases to production and test environments
• Automation of common processes and metric collection using scripts
• Respond swiftly to security vulnerabilities by applying patches or workarounds
• Address L1/L2 issues and debugging problems for engineering handoff
• Create technical documentation in Confluence for peers and engineering
• Be available off hours for on-call rotation and production changes

• Red Hat RHCA certification or equivalent experience
• VMware VCP certification or equivalent experience
• Vertica certification or equivalent experience
• MySQL/MariaDB certification or equivalent experience
• Proficiency with bash scripting
• Good scripting skills with Python, Ruby, or Perl
• Experience with modern automation frameworks (Salt Stack, Ansible, etc)
• Administration experience with the following technologies is a plus:
  • Couchbase and MongoDB
  • Apache Tomcat and JBoss
  • Apache Storm and Apache Kafka
  • Hortonworks Data Platform
  • AWS EC2 and Elastic Load Balancer
  • Nagios, Ganglia, and Graphite
