Position at Maxus

The marketing analyst supports the marketing analytics director and the Maxus Intel team, to deliver on great data and digital-driven work for our clients.  You will play a key role in producing modelling insights for analysis to help drive optimal response to media.

Reporting of the role

This role reports to the National Marketing Analytics Director.

Office location:  Melbourne

Measures of success –

In three months:

  • Contributed key elements to a media mix model project
  • Contributed to ad hoc reporting/analytics projects for key clients.
  • Been trained on our standard media and audience tools (e.g. Asteroid, Matrix, Nielsen AQX)

In six months:

  • Led the analytics portion of 1-2 advanced analytics projects
  • Consistently contributed to ad hoc reporting/analytics projects for key clients.
  • Played a support role in the analytics portion a new business pitch
  • Started to create a working relationship with client analytics teams
  • Earned the trust of client partner teams, having them turn to you for assistance in making their own basic data analysis more meaningful

In 12 months:

  • Contributed to the insights and actions portions of 1-2 advanced analytics projects
  • Helped improve how execs and assistants in the  client partner teams use data  in their day to day roles
  • Consistently delivered analytics projects that support the business teams’ recommendations
  • Made a key contribution to a new business pitch or two from a data planning point of view

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Building media mix models: econometric models to determine the sales/leads response on media and marketing activity.
  • Use statistical approaches to gain insights for clients using an array of data sources
  • Assisting on the execution of analytics projects: from standalone marketing analytics projects, to projects as part of broader strategy planning,
  • Support the Marketing Analytics Director in general operations when required, including:
  1. Drafting scope documents
  2. Managing client invoicing
  3. Contribute to new business pitches when required
  4. This might include presenting, creating content and any other areas requested by senior pitch staff.
  5. Champion better use of software and technology within Maxus
  6. Tools include Tableau, and standard media tools such as Roy Morgan Asteroid
  7. Champion better use of data and analytics within Maxus 
  8. This includes all available data sources and GroupM trading tools.

    What you will need:
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Crucial to have attention to detail with high levels of accuracy
  • Ability to build regression models using R and Eviews
  • Ideally some experience with data viz platforms such as Tableau and/or Datorama
  • The ability to build relationships & collaborate with client partner teams internally
  • The ability to work autonomously when required
  • 1-2 years’ experience in an analyst role ideally as a media analyst or from another relevant field.
  • Ideally a basic understanding of the media landscape, the platforms and metrics we use e.g. Sizmek, Adwords, Google Analytics
  • Ideally a basic understanding of the marketing funnel
  • To be a collaborative team player that supports the client teams
  • Numeracy and attention to detail that is second to none
  • A problem solving mentality
  • The ability to think laterally and identify discrepancies in data/data visualisation/results
  • The ability to “think outside the square” and source proxy data sources when client data is not available
  • Energetic and creative optimist who is always looking to do and try things differently
