Overview of job

We are seeking a very senior level person to lead the day-to-day operations within Longbow. This work involves understanding clients’ goals and objectives, creatively thinking of ways to solve their problems with data science-driven solutions, and working with our account team, product managers and project teams, to deliver solutions to our clients.

Reporting of the role

This is a senior level position reporting directly to the CEO, with most of our team reporting to this leader.

Job Location:

This position will be based in Shanghai, in our newly-built office campus building in Jing’an, on Hengfang Road. The person holding this role will travel to Hangzhou for work for a day trip approx 3-4 times per month, with occasional overnight business-related travel to Beijing, Guangzhou/Shenzhen/Hong Kong.

Measures of success –

In three months:

  • Oversee and deliver 3 project pilots with new clients, to gain traction and upsell to paid projects.
  •  Outline and implement process for delivering work, and for managing internal company operations.

In six months:

  • Deliver 6 project pilots with new clients, to gain traction and upsell to paid projects.
  • Create and sell internally a business plan for Consulting services (ie, Data As A Service) as added value on top of Longbow products. Outline the ideal team structure for Consulting teams to deliver solutions with our Knowledge products.
  • Assist in delivery of projects to ensure that we hit our revenue and profitability targets.

In twelve months:

  • Deliver 12 project pilots with new clients, to gain traction and upsell to paid projects.
  • Help us build something unique and new into each of our three products (a ‘game changing’ innovation), that helps to overcome our competition in each area.
  • Create and deliver a plan for a fourth product line, using data science as its foundation.
  • Assist in delivery of projects to ensure that we hit our revenue and profitability targets.

Responsibilities:

  • MANAGER: This person will manage all day-to-day work in our company, including staffing, finance, legal, marketing, product and project management and delivery.  (Tech matters will be handled by our CTO.  Sales, partnerships, strategy, and account management will fall under our CEO.)
  • CONSULTANT:  This person will work directly with our clients as a problem solver, working on critical pilots and first projects with new clients to ensure our success.
  • STORY TELLER:  The person in this role will be a story-teller for our company, sharing what we do in an engaging way, in meetings and at marketing events, helping them to understand the value proposition of data science and how it can be used to grow our clients’ businesses.

What you will need:

  • At least a Bachelors degree, in engineering, computer science, business, marketing or another discipline related to our work.
  • Five or more years of hands-on management experience with data-related projects.
  • Professional experience conducting research, digital analytics consulting or working in another analytical field with a demonstrated passion for numbers, will be a huge plus.
  • It would be a good to have been part of a startup or to have experience working on innovative small projects, but this is not required.
  • Our working environment is cross-cultural, so bilingual (English/Mandarin) speaker is preferred.
