Position at MEC

MEC Analytics division is looking for a statistics specialist to further develop the modelling offering at the regional analytics hub, Shanghai.  You will help to execute modelling projects from proposal to presentation, further develop the modelling offering, and train others in the field – all with the purpose of using data informed decision making to improve the performance of advertising.

Reporting of the role

This role reports to the Analytics Director.

Measures of success –

In three months:

  • Become an active collaborator on the wider analytics and strategy team by attending team trainings and activities
  • Fully familiarized with all of the data sources available to MEC
  • Worked with modelling manager to build two cross media project proposals for a client
  • Worked with modelling manager to build two econometrics project proposals for a client

In six months:

  • Have sold a cross media and econometrics project to client
  • Tested a statistical method (i.e. Decision trees, Structural Equation Modelling) for use in future product offerings
  • Provided training on a bi-weekly basis to larger team on how to do econometrics and cross media projects, and other related topics

In 12 months:

  • Sold, executed and presented four modelling projects with satisfactory results to the client
  • Delivered a number of internal ad hoc advanced analytics projects which improved client/agency relationships
  • Productized a new modelling offering/technique that can be sold or used to help internal media planning process

Responsibilities of the role:

  1. Become a member of a larger team by attending team trainings/events, communicating and collaborating well with teammates of various expertise
  2. Working with the modelling manager, own the execution of cross media and econometrics modelling projects
  3. Learn, test, and develop the modelling based service offerings of the future
  4. Help with Ad hoc analytics requests to improve client satisfaction around the agency

What you will need:

  • Education – a degree in a quantitative field such as economics, statistics, finance (post bachelor study a plus)
  • Experience – at least 5 years’ experience in owning econometric modelling projects (OLS and Mixed Effect Regressions)
  • Experience – at least 5 years’ experience in owning cross media (or mind monitor) modelling projects
  • Attitude – interested in statistics and an eagerness to learn, and enjoys working with others
  • Skills – excellent in R or SPSS (R is preferred)
  • Communication – good communication skills and comfortable to present
  • Language – working proficiency in English, fluent to read/write in Mandarin
